hoping to read this one soon
I enjoyed this one more than Edible Woman or Handmaid's Tale; it was more everyday-believable, less dystopic than those.
A young girl whose "friends" make her walk behind them after school then make fun of her walk, her clothes, something she did or didn't do...once we grow up most of us realize these people weren't really true friends, just other children who lived in the neighborhood so you end up walking to school with them and spending time after school. Elaine, the main character, worked through this as she grew up, painting many of the issues caused by Cordelia, the manipulative leader of the clique.
We probably all have a Cordelia in our past, to one extent or another.
I think the device of a contemporary character looking back to her childhood in flashback, moving back and forth chapter by chapter as she passed through grade school, high school and college, finally uniting the two storylines, was well-constructed by Ms. Atwood and an effective way to present this story.

Planning to take along to the NYC February meetup tomorrow.
I just received this book today at Starbucks during this month's Meetup. Thanks to Dr. Noelle for giving me this book. This goes on my TBR pile. I will review when I can.
