Released for the 3 every week, allergic to a's and sensibility release challenges

If you aren't familiar with Bookcrossing, take a few minutes to check out this very cool site. Bookcrossers LOVE books, and more than anything, they love to read books and then set them free for other people to find and enjoy. I would love it if you would leave a journal entry -- you can say where you found the book or how you liked it when you read it. Then, when you are ready, pass it along for someone else to enjoy! Thanks and happy reading!

I had heard good things about this author, although it was her book "A Cure for Dreams" which was actually recommended to me. "Sights Unseen" is a novel narrated by a girl growing up in the South in the 1960s with a mentally ill mother.

I struggled to get through it, for several reasons. First of all, the narrator herself remains largely an enigma. As readers, we do not come to know and understand her thoughts, feelings, motivations, etc. In addition, there is no real plot to speak of -- no central conflict needing to be resolved. Perhaps the book is intended mainly as a character study, rather than a narrative? Lastly, when I did reach the end of the book, I found the conclusion unrealistic.

Overall, not a great read for me, but I would be willing to give the author another try at some point. I hope the next reader gets more out of this one than I did.
