" Lawson communicates not only the lovely awe and beauty of the landscape but the way its inhabitants function within it. Crow Lake is the kind of book that keeps you reading well past midnight; you grieve when it's over. Then you start pressing it on friends."
~~~The Washington Post
I concur, absolutely, 100%!! Why, oh why, did this exquisite book linger so long on Mt. TBR, while I read so many frivolous nothings????
Ah well, I've read it now, will recommend it highly, and send it on to be loved by others!
mailed Monday as an Easter surprise ~~~may you love it as much as I did !
here's what I posted on Facebook about it:
finished "Crow Lake" today. An exquisite book.....the lonely beauty of northern Ontario is mirrored in the characters...Families marred by tragedy...brutally, and subtley...divisively, Familial love and misunderstandings, resentments and redemption.....one of those rare books so beautiful you don't want it to end.....
Erishkigal, thank you so much for this wishlist book! I'm thrilled to see you've read it and gave it 10 stars. Makes me want to read it that much sooner.
And a HUGE thank you for all of the wonderful goodies you sent as part of the Easter Exchange. You totally surprised me and I had so much fun going through everything!!!
When I first started reading this I thought it was going to be too dark and depressing, and I almost put it down. I'm so glad I didn't. This turned out to be a beautifully written story about sibling love, dealing with tragedy, and a crime which I will not mention here because it would be a spoiler...
To be released for guinaveve's 2010 Keep Them Moving Challenge, and Jare's 2010 Chills & Spills Read & Release Challenge - this month's theme is "water".
