Fictionalized account of the love affair between Frank Lloyd Wright and Mamah Borthwick, which developed when he was designing a house for Mamah and her husband Edwin. It makes for interesting reading, she was a woman ahead of her time in many respects. It is also interesting to read about Frank Lloyd Wright. The ending took me by surprise, as I didn't know the events that occurred.

Thanks Readabuck, so much for this book! I'm sorry it took me so long to journal, I've had it about a week now, but it got set aside as we're in the middle of kitchen renovations. I'm very eager to read it and I appreciate the RABCK very much.

This is one of those books that I put down and just stared at.. sad it was over.

My husband and I are fans of Frank Lloyd Wright and his work, and I knew the man had flaws that were largely overlooked due to his genius. If you are a FLW fan and want to read all about how wonderfully brilliant he is, go find a biography.

This book is more about Mamah Borthwick, the woman FLW left his wife for. She was a fascinating woman for her age, an active suffragist who spoke 4 or more languages, an intellectual and extremely well-read. She was articulate and intelligent and ambitious, not desired qualities in the women of her age. She and FLW had a 8 year relationship and it was Mamah that Frank origianlly built Taliesin for. They lived there together for 4 years. Nancy Horan has done a top notch job of creating a story worth reading that had me cheering for Mamah and wanting to shake her at the same time. I would have loved to have been this woman's friend!

The book is fiction based on real people and real events. The author is clear in her afterward about what parts of the story are factual, and what parts are fictional. I have read books that are marketed as biographies that contain as much or more fiction as this book does. I appreciate that Horan knows the story she has written is invented. Invented based on research and some known facts, but invented nonetheless.

A fascinating glimpse into what "womanhood" was 100 years ago. The more things change, the more they stay the same...
