It was waiting for me in my mailbox yesterday ! fast travel from the US !
Thanks a lot, krin511 !
I will begin reading it during this week end, I'll write more about it later...

Journal Entry 5 by boucli from Toulouse, Midi-Pyrénées France on Friday, August 1, 2003
The fun, with these books, is that you begin to find these timeslips, bookjumps and this sort of things completely normal !!!
I really loved it, and I can't wait to read the sequel (the well of lost plots)...A lot of things are on hold at the end of this one...some dreadful, and some joyful !
How will Thursday sort all this, I wonder !
This book will leave for the UK very soon...

Journal Entry 6 by boucli from Toulouse, Midi-Pyrénées France on Monday, August 4, 2003
On its way to Talkland, in the UK...
And the picture is one of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, who, as you learn in this book, did not get lost while flying his plane over the mediterranean sea...
Looks like he's reading this book to jump in it, don't you think ??

Journal Entry 7 by talkland from Eastbourne, East Sussex United Kingdom on Tuesday, August 12, 2003
'Lost In A Good Book' arrived this morning. Thanks for the book and the postcard Boucli. Like in France, it is very hot here at the moment and I am suffering from sunburn [went to the beach yesterday and did not realise until after I got home how red I was mainly because I spent most of the day in the sea]. I am going to very prudent until I look less like a Lobster and get lost in a good book!

Journal Entry 8 by talkland from Eastbourne, East Sussex United Kingdom on Friday, August 29, 2003
Thursday Next is back! Woohoo! This time she is having bother with the SpecOps PR department after her adventures in 'Jane Eyre'. Then she starts noticing coincidences, and these cause very close brushes with death, but the final straw comes when Landen [her newlywed husband] is eradicated! Only Thursday's memories remain of him [and her unborn child], no one else knows who he was!

Thursday finds she needs help this time. The literary world comes to her aid and starts training her in the art of book-jumping under the tutelage of Miss Havisham from 'Great Expectations'. We find out more about the world of stories which contrary to our beliefs has rules and systems just like our own. We meet the Unitary Authority of Warrington Cat [formally the Cheshire Cat, but they have gone and changed the borders] who resides in the Great Library where every book written is kept. Not only has Thursday, the Goliath Corporation on her back [they were the ones to eradicate Landen] but it looks like her arch nemesis Acheron Hades is back from the dead...oh and plus the world is going to end by being engulfed by a giant pink blob!

Totally wacky, but great fun and I am definitely looking foward to the 'Well Of Lost Plots', which is the next Thursday Next adventure!

Released on Friday, August 29, 2003 at fellow bookcrosser in Eastbourne, England United Kingdom.

To Starry-Starry who resides in the People's Republic of Wales [well in Thursday's dimension she would]!

Journal Entry 10 by Starry-Starry from Llandrindod Wells, Wales United Kingdom on Wednesday, September 3, 2003
Received this morning, a very welcome surprise, thanks Talkland. I was hoping to be able to read The Eyre Affair before this one as it should be on its way to me now. If I recieve it in the next couple of days I will read that one first then this one - don't worry I won't hold it up I'm a fast reader - otherwise I will start this one first. Looking forward to it.

Journal Entry 11 by Starry-Starry from Llandrindod Wells, Wales United Kingdom on Monday, September 8, 2003
Greetings from the People's Republic of Wales. I did recieve The Eyre Affair in time and read them back to back and I'm so glad that I did. I loved both books, perhaps the first one a little more than this one, but they are both wonderful. Jasper Fforde has created such fantastic characters, particularly Thursday, my new hero. I loved the play on the character's names, more obvious in this one - finally got Jack Schitt after meeting his brother Schitt-Hawse, first name Brik!

Will probably go out and buy them both, to re-read, and I'm looking forward to the next installment.

Will be sending this off to Bunzrun when I have her/his address.

Journal Entry 12 by bunzrun from Wirtz, Virginia USA on Friday, September 19, 2003
Just arrived here from over the big pond. I have another bookring book to finish up, but am anxious to get to this one. (May get my husband to read it in the meantime. He's intrigued with what I have told him.)

Back later after I have actually read some.

November 11, 2003
I did finish this a while ago and sent it on. Somehow, I remember writing a review but I do not see it here. Anyway, I loved it and was sorry to see it leave to the next reader.
The title is very appropriate for often I found myself lost in it. I enjoyed traveling through books and time. Perhaps I am getting used to putting reality in the back seat because I did not find this book as confusing as the first in the series. Really enjoyed the humor and am looking forward to the "Well of Lost Plots".

Journal Entry 13 by pchemphd from Deland, Florida USA on Tuesday, October 28, 2003
Lost in a Good Book has made it to DeLand, FL! I can't wait to start it, but I have some other books already in the line-up, so I'm trying to exercise some self-control. Thanks for sending it my way.

Journal Entry 14 by pchemphd from Deland, Florida USA on Monday, November 10, 2003
Self-control went straight out the window!! This was a fun read, and I can't wait for the next book in the series. Thank you again for sending it my way.

Journal Entry 15 by rhythmbiscuit from Northglenn, Colorado USA on Tuesday, November 25, 2003
Received the book yesterday. I am already a good 150 pages into it. This book is easier to read than The Eyre Affair, perhaps because I am used to the weirdness, like sideslips and extinct creatures roaming the earth.

I adored Thursday's father in the first book, and he is still my favorite character. I especially love how he doesn't exist because his conception was interrupted!

Journal Entry 16 by rhythmbiscuit from Northglenn, Colorado USA on Monday, December 1, 2003
I read this book quickly because I enjoyed it so much. Who knew that the world ends when all organic matter turns into sweet-tasting pink goo?

I really wish I could jump into books the way Thursday can. The whole time I was reading this book, I was trying to make up my mind what book I would most like to visit.

Ms. Havisham is a hoot! I also thought it was funny that the Cat was the librarian, since he is prone to giving round-about advice. All in all, I liked this book. I will send it on to Roadrunner as soon as possible.

I am sending this book to roadrunner.

Journal Entry 18 by roadrunner from Spring, Texas USA on Saturday, December 13, 2003
This was waiting for me when I arrived home from work yesterday. I had no idea it was on its way so it was a nice surprise! I've just been told that Well of Lost Plots is also on its way so the timing is perfect. I'm just finishing up another bookring book but will get to this asap. Thanks, Krin511 for sharing!

Journal Entry 19 by roadrunner from Spring, Texas USA on Friday, December 26, 2003
This is a wonderful book. Very entertaining and hard to put down. I loved Mrs. Havisham and especially liked the sale at the Swindon Booktastic! It reminded me of the last library booksale that I went to. Not for the meek or faint of heart . . .

I'm waiting for an addy to send this on. It will be off as soon as I have somewhere to send it. Well of Lost Plots arrived two days ago - perfect timing! I hope it wraps up some of the loose ends from this book.

I don't know if it is Krin511 who is responsible for the Dodo Home Cloning Kit that is in the book but it is quite clever! I must get one . . .

Received ! And it goes directly on the top of my PAL...

Journal Entry 22 by Mostly-Harmless on Saturday, January 17, 2004
I found this Next novel still better than the first one ! Maybe it was because I'm now familiar with the Universe, or maybe because the story is clearer and better built. But the perculiarity and the fun is the same ! I laughed out loud a couple of time (the Fiction Frenzies, the mammoth bit...)Anyway, to my mind, it's a real "page turner" ! And I like the way Thursday is not perfect, and the way the story end... (no more details, for fear spoiling the story!). A very very good read, thanks krin511... Now I'm dying to read the 3rd one !

I will send it to bilbi as soon as possible, with another bookring...

-- 20th January : sent today

I'm looking forward to reading more of her adventures.
Thank you for organizing the 'ring.

This arrived yesterady and I am really looking forward to reading it. I have a few ahead of it on the TBR pile and will journal again once I have read it. Thanks for sending it on.

Journal Entry 27 by Fofum from Beverley, East Yorkshire United Kingdom on Sunday, August 15, 2004
Loved it - though got a bit waylayed in the middle as I had to put it down for a little while. What a convoluted mind Mr Fforde has! I have the sneaky feeling I'm not quite literate enough for all the jokes. How do people outside the UK cope with the geographical ones - the Unitary Authority of Warrington Cat made me titter every time I read it, as did the descripions of Swindon! I'm pleased to see the reference to AJP Milner in one of the forewords, as will many A Level History students of my generation who battled through the texts of his alter ego!
The story was completely crackers but very funny. In the end, though, I was reading it for the next joke rather than the plot twists. I knew something bizarre would happen and it would all be alright in the end, and that how the difficulties would be overcome was not worth predicting as something copletely incredible would come along. The really clever thing is how the author weaves all this fantastic stuff together into a plot that does actually work!
Great book, thanks for passing it around and my apologies for my tardiness in finishing it.

I thought I had journaled this - oops! Sorry about that!

Journal Entry 29 by kymberlie from Spring, Texas USA on Wednesday, November 17, 2004
Again, it’s 1985, England is the world’s biggest superpower and a virtual police state seemingly controlled by the mega-corporation Goliath. Thursday Next, Special Operations Literary Detective, has managed to infuriate Mr. Schitt-Hawse, a Goliath executive, by imprisioning his half-brother Jack Schitt in Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven.” Schitt-Hawse proceeds to blackmail Thursday into getting his half-brother back by eradicating any trace of her new husband so that she’s the only one who even remembers him.

To make matters worse, a bunch of bizarre coincidences have resulted in accidents that almost take her life and she still has to figure out if the newly discovered Shakespearean play was really penned by the bard and save the world from turing into a ball of pink sludge.

As with The Eyre Affair, one has to have a certain suspension of disbelief, but I completely loved the book. The literary references and jokes were wonderful and trying to figure out how Thursday’s going to deal with everything that’s going on is both interesting and fun. I really look forward to reading the next book in the series, The Well of Lost Plots

Received in the mail today. I will put it next in line! Thank-you!

I just finished this book while on holidays. While I found the first half of the book lagged a bit, I really enjoyed the second half. My new favourite saying is:
"He is a verb short of a sentence."

On to the next bookcrosser!

Journal Entry 35 by fsr44 from Pawtucket, Rhode Island USA on Tuesday, August 16, 2005
What a fabulous read! Fforde is so imaginative that each page is a delight. The only reason I'm giving this a 9 and not a 10 is that the story isn't close to tied up by the last page. It continues in The Well of Lost Plots, making these two books far more "joined" than this one and The Eyre Affair.
Now I've got to find a book ring for The Well of Lost Plots!
I'll send off as soon as I have the next addy.

Just as in The Eyre Affair, it took me a bit to get 'into' Fforde's world, but once I did, I loved every page. (like Boucli said; the timeslips & bookjumps become completely 'normal')

Thanks for sharing this one too, Krin511...as soon as I hear back from batty14, I will send this on its way (now, to find a ring for "The Well of Lost Plots....)

Just finished reading this last night. I wasn't sure I was going to like it, as I didn't really like the Eyre Affair that much but I enjoyed it much more than the first book. Thursday's adventures are enjoyable and the characters are likeable (or not as in the Goliath goons).

Looking forward to the next book in the series.
