A look at the life of an extraordinary woman, Marion "Joe" Carstairs, the fastest female speedboat racer in the 1920's and a woman who lived by her own rules. She inherited a Standard Oil fortune which let her live the way she wanted to, very uncommon in the era in which she lived.
Very interesting reading about a woman that I had never even heard of until a friend gave me the book. The book was given to me because Ms. Carstairs had a doll named Lord Tod Wadley. Lord Tod Wadley was made by the Steiff, a German company noted for their wonderful teddy bears. I am an avid collector of Steiff toys and the woman who gave me this book actually wrote one of the very first books on Steiff toys.
I plan on leaving this book on a Community Transit bus in Snohomish County, Washington on my way into work at the University of Washington Medical Center .
