Parasol Protectorate Part 1
Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations.
First, she has no soul.
Second, she's a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead.
Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette.
Where to go from here? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire - and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.
With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia is responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London's high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?

War spaßig zu lesen; dadurch, dass es zeitlich so anders gesetzt war, auch mal was anderes als die typische Urban Fantasy. Die Charaktere waren teilweise schon fast ein wenig karikaturen-/klischeehaft, was aber auch der einzige Mangel in meinen Augen geblieben ist.
Vielen Dank fürs Leihe, soll ich es zurückschicken oder wandert es noch weiter? :)

Fascinating and funny book. I liked the story and the idea of setting vampires and werewolves into Victorian age London. It explains a lot about the English ;).

Arrived today, thanks! This book won't have to wait that long. :)
Liked this very much. It was different from the typical vampire and werewolf yarn, and I loved the addition of a bit of steampunk. I really liked Alexia, Lord Maccon (who reminded me a lot of Mr. Darcy...) and Prof. Lyall - the other characters, too, although they were sometimes a bit cliché. But as this story also reads a bit like a parody, it wasn't a problem for me.
The writing style is refreshing; liked the little sarcasm that crept into the narrative. *g* I'll definitely buy this book and the sequels.

I found the humour and the main character quite refreshing and was well entertained throughout the book. On the other hand, I found the romance part of the novel was less to my taste. Therefore I'm still not sure whether I want to pick up the rest of the series...

Wurde mir von Llyren mitgebracht. Bin schon sehr gespannt.
Ich habe etwa 80 Seiten des Buches gelesen und inhaltlich hat es mir gut gefallen. Jedoch hatte ich das Gefühl, dass mein Englisch nicht gut genug für dieses Buch ist und mir etliche Witze und Anspielungen entgangen sind. Daher werde ich es wohl lieber mit der dt. Übersetzung versuchen.
Das Buch darf heute endlich zurück zu seiner Besitzerin. Danke fürs Lesen lassen. :-)
