"Nothing links person to person like the frequent passage from hand to hand of a good book."
This was a most beautiful story, based on journals and interviews, of the Warsaw zookeeper and his wife. It takes place before, during, and a bit after WWII and tells the true story of the heroism of this family in saving people during the war. The unique setting of the zoo only enhances the charm of the story. Author Diane Ackerman clearly did a great deal of research and cites many of her sources; she's a naturalist, and tells the tales of the people and the animals with wonderful sensitivity and unique perspective about behaviors.
This is a book that I'll recommend over and over again to anyone who will listen.

If you aren't familiar with Bookcrossing, take a few minutes to check out this very cool site. Bookcrossers LOVE books, and more than anything, they love to read books and then set them free for other people to find and enjoy. I would love it if you would leave a journal entry -- you can say where you found the book or how you liked it when you read it. Then, when you are ready, pass it along for someone else to enjoy! Thanks and happy reading!
