I loved your letter! Thank you! I've not read this book, tho i have seen the film, so I look forward to getting to it. I will write back, but I'm busy with the last show of our season, then helping my daughter move, so I may be awhile~~

Oh, dear.....I read my note on receiving this book, and go, ok, last show, Meg's move, then it would have been off to Little Big Medicine.... and I'll bet by that time writing back was long "out of sight , out of mind...." I bow low and apologize profusely!

Well, I finally got around to reading this, and liked it so much better than the film. As books generally do, this had so many levels that the film lacked.

The film, I felt, put it's emphasis on the sexual relationship between Micheal and Hannah, with the remainder of the story being very rushed.

In the book, that was just the beginning. And because it was a starting rather than the focus, we were able to perceive not only how it affected Micheal's entire life, but how his guilt and shame about the relationship became analogous to his generation's feelings for that of their parents', the generation that "allowed" Hitler and the Nazi's to rise.

And Speaking of "allowing," Schlink granted no easy answers to our moral dilemmas, but painted a world of many shades of grey.

I'm gathering my books to release in the next few days, and seems such an appropriate book to release for Hiroshima~Nagasaki Peace Days......

so..... I shall set this free sometime between Aug. 6th and Aug. 9th

To be released in memory of those those who died in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Released in memory of those who lived. Released with a prayer that nuclear bombs are never dropped again. And with the hope that Peace may become a reality. Aho! Mitakye Oyasin! (Lakota for: We are all related)
