From the back cover:

"Precious Ramotswe has always maintained an unconquerable belief in a kind world and good neighbours. But with a threatening anonymous letter-writer to deal with, not to mention a client's search for her true family and Mr J.L.B. Matekoni's pursuit of an expensive miracle for their own foster daughter, Motholeli, Mma Ramotswe suddenly finds herself reconsidering the complex nature of truth and whether it is sometimes better not to know it..."

I have liked the previous Mma Ramotswe books but this one was bit of a disappointment. The story just dragged and dragged and nothing felt interesting. At some stage it got a bit better but it never felt like an interesting read.

Hi, em64! I visited the library today and this book was still waiting there in the book trade shelf for new readers :) I've already read one copy of this book ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/6017043), but just couldn't resist taking this with me, because I remembered this part of Mme Ramotswe -series being on so many wishlists. Let's see who will be the next reader...

What a lovely surprice! Thank you so much Lukutuoli!!! Mma Ramotswe and the other characters are so wonderful. Now I have a very good reason to go to the library and borrow the previous book (The Good Husband of Zebra Drive) so I can read these books in right order.

Journal Entry 7 by halonhakkaaja at Kuopio, Pohjois-Savo / Norra Savolax Finland on Wednesday, August 31, 2011
Now I finally read the previous book and right away also this book. The humor, kindness and wisdom of McCall Smith's writings are so marvellous. Also my husband has read the book, so the book is ready to continue it's journey.

When there is a competition where wrong answers are rewarded, I'm your lady! Thanks halonhakkaaja, this wishlist book is muchos appriciated. I'll put the kettle on,as there was also some Rooibus tea to be tasted. Thanks!

Oops, I tagged Niksu with this book and then realized I hadn't even read it. I thought I had read all the Mma Ramotswes in my possession, but for some reason this had been overlooked. Luckily they are a quick read.
This time there was hope in the air - hope to find lost relatives, hope to be able to walk again, hope to get a lovely new bed, hope to get a van fixed...
My work mate also wanted to read this before it moves to Niksu, so to Sipoo the book shall travel for a little detour.

Journal Entry 10 by wingAnonymousFinderwing at Sipoo, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Monday, March 12, 2012
I've read most Mma Ramotswe stories and this had somehow escaped my attention, so it was sort of going back in history. It was as good as the whole series has been and I keep wondering how a white male university scholar from Edinburgh can sound like a chatty African lady with great everyday wisdom. These books always put me on a good mood.
The name of the book lets you wait for the Big Miracle, but in the end you remember that even small things in life can be miracles.
The book returns to Kirjakko.

Journal Entry 11 by wingkirjakkowing at Helsinki, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Tuesday, March 13, 2012
Mma Ramotswe has returned to Helsinki and is heading to oofiri's postbox to be given to Niksu who possibly will attend the BC-meeting today. If I have time to swing the book there on my way to work. Hopefully, as then it'll be one less book here and one has to be glad over small miracles as well...

Journal Entry 12 by Niksu at Helsinki, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Wednesday, July 11, 2012
Thanks for the book. And thanks to oofiri being such a patient courier.

Journal Entry 13 by Niksu at Helsinki, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Monday, September 10, 2012
What should I say. I read it, it was ok enough to finish it but a bit too slowpaced and yeah, maybe the plot was dragging a bit. It seems there are two books after this book in the series Tea Time for the Traditionally Built and The Double Comfort Safari Club but we'll see will I ever read those. (EDIT: oh, two more...The Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party and The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection.)

Thanks for fullfilling my wish. This book will end up to our local meetup tomorrow, if doesn't find new readers there then it will be wild released.

Journal Entry 16 by wingtoukokuuwing at Espoo, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Sunday, September 8, 2013
After a break long enough I was ready to grap a book from this series and aww, I was entertained. I really enjoyed reading something as slow-paced and gently humorous as these stories. This might be the first book in this series I read in English and I think that makes the story better.

25.10.2013 The book arrived by mail in Nokia (I've moved twice last year) today. Thank you for fulfilling my wish, toukokuu!

15.9.2014 I read the book already a little while ago. The books in this series are very similar, so it's not wise to read them all in a row. But one book every now and then is a pleasure. When you open a Mma Romotswe book, it's like coming home - the characters and the scenery are familiar, the pace is slow and things are handled down to earth kind of way. Not earth-shaking reading experience, but rather soothing and calming.

Journal Entry 19 by dutchbooky at Amsterdam, Noord-Holland Netherlands on Friday, September 26, 2014
Thanks, hetku77! It has been a while since I read a book from this series. You are right, one should not read them all at once. Now I look forward to starting it. And as for the pace, I think it is the African pace, well rendered in McCall-Smith's books. They always manage to transport me back to this beautiful continent.

Journal Entry 20 by dutchbooky at Amsterdam, Noord-Holland Netherlands on Sunday, October 5, 2014
Finished! I enjoyed it, although I found myself wondering why Mma Ramotswe still calls her husband Rra.... I don't even know what his name is. Seems silly, to not use your first name, being married and all. But then, it probably is the charm of this series, these 'old-fashioned' values in life.

Looking forward to the next book.
