The Poisonwood Bible (Oprah's Book Club)
3 journalers for this copy...
I had read The Bean Tree's by Barbara Kinsolver & was not overly impressed with her style of writing. My daughter assured me that The Poisonwood Bible was a really good read so after a lot of procrastinating I decided to read it.
She was correct - this is an amazingly GOOD book & well worth the read.
Barabara K. must have done a great deal of research to write this book & she also showed amazing insite & understanding into the world & people we call AFRICA.
This book tells you a great deal about how different people handle the same situation & also a lot of insite into the political situation in the Congo during the 60's...
Definately a very good read.

update of Feb. 4th. 2013:
Wow, that sure is a great book. At first I had some difficulties to get into it, mainly because I was so annoyed about this maniac preecher and I was so mad about the wife for not leaving him to rescue her children and herself from this madman. But the the story got more and more interesting. I liked alot that the story was told by the children and hey what different kind of views they had. Surely I didn't like Rachel the stupid selfish platin-blonde, but I liked both of the twins and the cute little-one. It was interesting to learn about the latest history of the Congo. It would be great if things like that happen nowadays (the US having an elected African president killed and a monster installed instead) someone would get punished for it. But to be true, I doubt it.
Anyway I will try to get this book in German language so my husband can read it as well.
