I really appreciate your shop search for this one. :D This was the book I'd been looking for most. I will journal it again when I'm done reading! thanks so much
In my journal for the first book, Three Men in a Boat ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/7851594/ ), I compared the humor to the Marx brothers (if only they had made movies based on these books!) and also Alice in Wonderland. Interestingly, Alice in Wonderland is mentioned on the first page of this book, the sequel. It's funny they had 'To Say Nothing of the Dog' as a subtitle for the first book, because in this one, the dog is missing completely. This sequel wasn't as hilarious. There was just something funnier about being in a boat in the Thames. A lot of the humor in this one was violence based. Published in 1900, and taking place in Germany, there is a lot of German humor here.. at one point comparing Germans to angels, a little eerie considering what would happen less than half a century later. There wasn't really humor between J, George, and Harris.
Sent to LovesOU! Hope you like this -- and also read Three Men in a Boat. It is hilarious!
excellent. Arrived from New York today! I read Three men in a boat by the same author. it was fab. Hope this is too. Thank you cinnycat for sending this along.
Sending to PA. Thanks for taking the book from a RABCK. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Thanks so much! This one arrived safely (just barely - the envelope had some tears in it) today.
I just finished reading this one. I agree that the boat book was somehow funnier; I think he got a little long-winded about the German character there at the end! I do love the dry way he describes their adventures. Thanks again for sending it.
Sending off to ComradeCamper who expressed interest in this book after reading Three Men in a Boat. Enjoy!
Bascula very kindly sent me this book because I loved "Three Men in a Boat" so much. So I requested this title to find out what else the three men were up to.
Very generous of you to send it, Bascula!
