Journal Entry 3 by cbostler from Sandy, Utah USA on Friday, April 2, 2010
I received this book two months ago, and have been reading two or three chapters a day. I thoughtfully pondered each chapter, sometimes re-reading the deeper, "mystical" chapters two or three times. I can't claim that I understood everything I read, but I found the book to be touching and inspirational. Rachel Naomi Remen is a brilliant, compassionate storyteller and counselor.
My favorite chapters are:
Getting Clear (page 155) Dr. Remen received a bracelet with the word "clear" engraved in it. She researched the word to find the meaning of the gift. She found several definitions that related to her goals and beliefs. I was fascinated because my own name, Clare, is a derivative of the word "clear." I could see myself vividly in this chapter.

The Gift of New Eyes (page 269) This story sums up Rachel Remen's amazing philosophy of "living life well."

Integrity (page 281) This chapter has a story written by one of Dr. Remen's clients. He wrote about a young prince who sat beneath a table and mimicked a chicken. DELIGHTFUL and INSIGHTFUL!!!

The biggest impact MY GRANDFATHER'S BLESSINGS came during my last hour of reading. I realized that I, too, have countless blessings and lessons that come from those around me. My parents, daughters, grandchildren, relatives, friends, co-workers, and students I teach enrich my life and give me strength and purpose.
I'd like to get my thoughts down in print.

I almost took this book from the box last time around, and just couldn't let it pass me by again :)

I think I'll follow your lead, Clare, and put it where I'll pick it up and read a story or three at a time~

Received today from Erishkigal as a contribution to the book exchange shelves here at The Bristol, which is also an UnofficialBCZ for BookCrossing. Thank you so much! Hello to the previous readers. Hope someone snaps this book from the UBCZ and keeps it travelling!

I love that this is from PaulsBooks originally. When they started up, I was on support and helped them with some of their questions. Even wrote a story for the newsletter about PaulsBooks. Also, I've read this book before, so will put it aside to dig up my thoughts at the time and add it here.

My journal entry back around 2004, when I made one of my two copies a BookCrossing book:

A friend of mine gave me this book to read in 2001. We both had faced some significant health problems in the year prior to his giving it to me. I like to think that it helped him find some inner strength and peace.

I am keeping a copy of this book. It has a lot of strength in it- and a lot of wisdom too. We all can use a "battery recharge" now and then and I'll save this book to help with that...

My friend died very suddenly, in a car accident in 2003,

Plus it will be a reminder of a man who loved life, and left it too early. God bless you, Raoul.
