A Thousand Splendid Suns
2 journalers for this copy...
This was a great but difficult read. It gave this overwhelmingly heavy feeling. While traveling in the Middle East I had this same feeling. It is a depth of weight pulling my energy down. This book has beautiful writing and an important story to tell, but it was so emotionally difficult to read.

Received as a surprise RABCK from Ri. Thanks!
I agree with Ri that this was a tremendously important story to tell, but oh so difficult to read. I actually listened to it on audio and at times I got so angry at the injustice of it all that I had to pause for a bit. From what I have read about Afghanistan, it seemed to be an accurate depiction of life in that immensely troubled country.
This book was so well-written I want to pull out my copy of The Kite Runner, which came out before this book but somehow I have not read. I imagine, though, that it is just as difficult to handle.
For now it goes on my available shelf. I may save it for the next round of my First Sentences Virtual Bookbox.
