This was my all time favourite film when I was younger - I had an old VHS copy and even though I replaced it with a DVD a few years ago, I can't bring myself to throw the video away!

A unicorn lives in a wood, contented and peaceful, but then she overhears two hunters talking about how she is the last of her kind. She decides to leave her wood to find the others, not believing what they say, but finds that the humans that she meets only see a pretty white mare. She falls in with madame Fortuna, a wickid witch who disguises poor animals as dangerous myths and parades them around the country. With the hekp of the inept wizard, Schmendrick, she escapes and continues her Quest. They are also joined by Molly Grue, cook to a band of outlaws, who sees her for what she truly is. They chase th elegend of The Red Bull, to the country of King Haggard, and there Schmendrick performs a spell to change her into a human. It saves her from the Bull, but her new shape carries risks of its own. Can she remember who she is and free her brethren from Haggard's grasp?

This was written as a childrens story, but I think it has a richer vein than that. The story itself is simple and yet beautiful, the characters compelling and like old friends to me. I found myself remembering snatches of the cartoon film, the songs and the voices of the actors. A fantastic story that I am sure I will return to again and again.
