Kriel tells the story of how she went to the United Kingdom to work as a housekeeper, cook and nanny in a succession of upper-class households. She also writes about motherhood and her family in South Africa. The book is set up as a series of letters to her loved ones, which works well. I started off not liking the author that much, but she grew on me through the book!
