Candida Wilton is recently divorced and alienated from her three grown daughters. She moves from a beautiful Georgian house in Suffolk to a two-room flat in a run-down building in London. Candida is not destitute but she choses to live this way for some unknown reason. This book was a New York Times Notable Book.
Overall, I would have to say that this is a very well written and constructed book. The ending left me with a satisfied feeling. When I first started reading the book, I was mildly interested with the situation of the central character. However, halfway through the book, I wasn't sure that I liked the book because I didn't know where the book was going and I suspected it might be heading towards a bad ending. Then, the author jerked us around a bit with some twists and turns. I didn't know what was going to happen all the way up until the end of the book. That, I suppose, is characteristic of a good book.

This was waiting for me when I got back from my holiday trip. Adding to the TBR sooner shelf. Thanks! Love the cat postcard tucked inside.
Pulled as a potential for the "D" author bookring
unfortunately an uneven read for me. Too easy to put down and wander away. Will look for a new reader
