The Color of Magic
8 journalers for this copy...
I'm very protective of my Pratchett books, but I've decided to open them for a bookring one at a time. This one is the first in the series, so it's the first to go. I know a lot of people want to read them and it's hard to get cheap copies of the first few in the series.

So far, so good.
I am enjoying the tales of Rincewind the wizard and his companions. The book is split into four large chapters and so far seem to follow Rincewind's encounter and travels with Twoflower, a very odd tourist. I really like this character and as I am 75% through, I am eager to see how this first Discworld book will end.

All done with the first Discworld book. I was really hoping for a different ending, but I'll stay vague as others have yet to read this. Looks like Terry Pratchett has become another fantasy/humor author that I will have to put on my "read this person's books" list.
I love the Luggage! :)

The Color of Magic arrived today! I've wanted to read this series for a long time, so I'm shoving all my other books aside for now and jumping into this one! Thanks, kikimasu, for including me. And thanks, vysion, for the great bookmark!
My Summer Vacation by debnance
This summer I traveled to Discworld, a flat planet resting on the back of four elephants that together all rest on the back of a giant turtle. My trip was led by the terribly inept and fearful wizard, Rincewind, and his companion, the eager tourist, Twoflower. I've decided that I'm not returning home just yet; apparently there are many more trips available to this world of luggage with feet and semi-transparent dragons and small gods and clever dialogue and I plan to climb aboard the next transport (The Light Fantastic?) for the planet.

Tyressia has very promptly responded to my request for her address, so The Color of Magic will be whisked off to Canada later today!
I received the book in the mail today, and I'm eagerly looking forward to reading it. I've heard so much about Terry Pratchett, and being a huge fantasy fan, I've always been a little ashamed to admit I'd never read anything by him. Well, that won't be the case for much longer! :) The book is going right at the top of my TBR pile, I'll journal again after I've read it, and then I'll pass it along to JollyL.
After struggling with the book for days, I was forced to admit that it's just not my cup of tea. :( Then again, I probably should have known that before I tried reading it - I don't seem to be a fan of humor in fantasy or science fiction writing. I tend to like my fantasy gritty, realistic, and complex.
I'll be sending the book on to JollyL in the next day or two. :)

Well, Well, Well, looky here! Lookit what finally hit my mailbox. Do you know how many people were worried about you, little book? No? Well, that isn't very good, now is it??? LOL! This book finally arrived safe and sound, I wonder if it visited any interesting places on it's journey? I half expected it to be a big giant package that the mailman was putting off delivering, but it is actually quite small... I will start it this week! Thanks!

Well, I read it, and I enjoyed it! However, if I may be frank, if I was going to continue in this vein, I prefer Piers Anthony's Xanth series, or Terry Brooks' Magic Kingdom of Landover series. However, I picked up another of Pratchett's books here when I first signed up for this ring, and I will give it a try - my favorite part was the Luggage, definately. Rincewind kind of annoyed me. I guess I prefer my wizards just a little more...wizardly! I didn't love it, I didn't hate it... I just read it, I guess.
Sending this on to Cyber-librarian, enjoy!

I received this in the mail today from JollyL in Canada. I had this book on my wishlist because it was on BBC's "The Big Read" top 100 list. I didn't realize there's 29 books in The Discworld Series. Shall we read them all!?!
This is the 3rd bookring/ray I have in my possession at this time. I'm almost done with the 1st book ... so shouldn't be too long until I get to this one. It looks very interesting ... so I can't wait.
UPDATE (10/19/03): I'm almost done reading this .. only 50 more pages. Sorry its taken me so long. I sent Sarabeth a PM today, requesting her address. I hope (my best intentions) to get this in the mail either Mon or Tues.

Well, this little book has almost finished its rounds. Just wanted to update you guys on the list. After cyberlibrarian, the book should go to sarabeth, then to roadrunner, finally to zugenia, and then back to me. Casseytara has already read the book (Vysion sent her a copy :) If any of you wish to continue reading the series, I'm doing bookrings for the first 20 books. Just let me know and I'll add you.
I finished this book today. I haven't heard back from Sarabeth yet ... but will mail it to her as soon as I receive her address. Fantasy isn't my favorite genre ... but this book was quite interesting (as long as I could keep from getting lost ;-). I liked the humor in it and smiled several times. Well, other people have mentioned the journeys of the wizard Rincewind and the tourist Twoflower ... on Discworld (the flat planet riding on Great A'Tuin, the turtle and 4 elephants). My favorite character is the luggage which unexpected pops up right when he's needed. Another part I enjoyed (which no one has mentioned yet) is the Camera!! I love it when it yells that it's out of pink! Can't you just see your printer doing that while you'll printing a bunch of Bookcrossing labels! LOL What a fascinating imagination! I look forward to reading the others.

Thanks, and sorry for the delay!
Thanks, and sorry for the delay!
My first ever bookring book has made its way back home. It looks a little tired from all the travel, but not too bad considering where it has been. I'm glad so many of you enjoyed the book as much as I did. It's always fun to introduce people to a new (to them) author.
Kikimasu very generously sent this book plus the next two in the series. THANK YOU! I will read asap and get them back to you!
I had a little trouble getting into this book but to be fair I read it during a very busy and distracting time. It started to pick up (and I got the characters straightened out) after about 50 pages and I enjoyed the rest of the book. I will keep this until I read the next two books (very generously send by Kikimasu) and return them together when done.
Returned safely home. Soon to be travelling to Iraq.
Sent to soldiers in a care package to Iraq.
