I found this good-condition paperback on the Tyngsboro MA post office book-swap shelf, and as I'd enjoyed the Merchant-Ivory film but had never read the book, I brought it home. [Maurice is my favorite Forster novel - and film - and I've enjoyed other works of his, including Howard's End.]
Later: I really enjoyed the book, though in part that was because I could envision the scenes from the film - especially the nude romp around the bathing hole {grin}. But the dialogue sparkles (and snarks, too), and its view of romance is very sly. Not sure whether I'd recommend reading the book before watching the film or the other way around, but I do recommend both!
