Half of a 2fer1 offer at Waterstones; a very funny opening paragraph. I was hooked.
(24/11) I thought I had written a review of this…I’m that busy and forgetful atm! Now that I have passed it on I should write a few words.
I’ve read a couple of DW’s books and more recently seen the Hollywood reworking of The Yes Man. Knowing that Wallace is moving into wider circles now and with a thriving TV and radio career, I found this ingénue blokey voice a little bit contrive; maybe he’s moving towards Hornby/Parsons-type suburban comedy fiction? Obviously he planned the whole seeking-out-school-friends adventure completely for the book, so I was not convinced about his mid-life crisis – although that didn’t stop it from being funny and touching in places. DW gets a lot of his leads from the internet and Facebook, as you would expect, in his endeavour to track down his 12 best school friends before his looming 30th birthday. But, and I may be being too cynical(?), he also seems to have an unfeasibly good memory of people & places and access to a treasure trove of school letters, pictures and an address book to help him.
