This is the first book I have read by Charlaine Harris. I enjoyed it and read it in one day. I'm glad that I have the next book in the series and have already started reading it.
Going out as a book spiral.

I'm really excited to read these two books. :) In fact, I'm just re-reading the first two in the Sookie Stackhouse series so that I can catch up on the later books in the series without getting confused! So this is just perfect. :) Thank you so much for the sweet postcard, FrancesinSA, and thank you for sending the books to me. I'll read them ASAP and get them posted as soon as I can.
Anyone who's curious about what I'm reading can take a look at my Goodreads bookshelf, it shows page numbers and currently reading and so on. :)
6th February 2010
I enjoyed this book, it was a bit dark and gloomy, and some of the characters caught my interest, but I didn't feel that there was anything special about it and I don't have a burning need to read the next one. Saying that, I was up 'til silly o'clock in the morning reading it because I just *had* to get to the end. I wasn't even that impressed with the ending, it wasn't one that I could've worked out for myself. It wasn't much of a twist, really. I'm sure other people will love it though, she's definitely a good writer in her genre. :)
I'm going to skip the second in the series, and pass these straight on to the next reader. Many thanks, FrancesinSA, for giving me this opportunity and taking the trouble to organise this!
PS: I just PMed nediamnori87 for an address.
Later that day...!
I've got the address, these are all parceled up and ready to be posted to Nediamnori87 as soon as I can get to a post office. (I normally print postage for small parcels but I'm out of ink on my printer!)
(ETA: Sorry about the bold text, fixed it now!)

I love the Sookie books that Charlaine Harris has written and as such I wanted to see what her earlier work was like. This book was a bit of a disappointment really. I'm not totally sure why but there seemed to be two big mysteries and one deterred away from the other. I would have been happier if she had sorted out the main characters past before the introducing a new problem so that you could get yourself into one or the other. As such I was mostly interested by Lily's past rather than the actual crime and so was quite disappointed once that had been revealed quite early on in the book. Then I had to generate some interest for the main plot. The conclusion was quite weak too. However I'm going to read the second one and see how it develops.
Thank you for sending it to me.

Arrived today. Looking forward to reading it. Thanks Jonniboi
Hmmm, a bit mixed. The mystery itself was a good puzzle, I worked it out before the end and felt it was a fair one. The heroine was interesting, although I felt there were a few too many details about cleaning, and not very interesting ones either. Oh and of course there was a big action scene in the end where the detective's life is threatened. I wish for a
modern mystery where the detective gets everyone together in the library for the big reveal.
On the other hand I did like having a heroine with a horrible rape in her background where the story's not focused around a tracking down her attackers for revenge.

Received in the mail today - I got 4 BC parcels today!
I thought I had missed a book when I started reading as Lily kept making references to events I wasn't aware of but once her past was revealed I could settle down and figure out the mystery. She is one tough woman - definitely on a par with V.I Warshawksi!

I have just finished this book.
Once I got over the comparison between Sookie and Lily and my reluctance about mystery’s books in general, I found the book surprisingly good. I like how Harris built the plot and the characters came to life in my head.
I’ll have to read the next book and then send both to the next in line.
