A firefighter gives a detailed account of his three decades as a smoke jumper in Alaska. He brings to life the adrenaline rush of jumping and fighting fires - - what it's like to hear the deafening roar, to feel the intense heat, to breathe the thick fumes - - as well as the boredom of the down time and the loneliness of the lifestyle.
The pace of the book was not unlike the life of a smoke jumper. At times it was so thrilling I couldn’t stop reading and at other points it got bogged down in the minutiae of everyday routine. All in all, though, an interesting and worthwhile read.

I'm sending this book to Bascula in Pennsylvania. She's a winner in my Belated Birthday RABCK drawing. Hope you (or your son) enjoys it!
Book arrived safely today, and I thank you. I'll be offering it to my son and anyone else in the household who might be interested.
