The Graveyard Book

Gaiman is his usual excellent self, creating a mystical tale which is mysterious, surreal, bitter and sweet, about a boy who's taken in by the ghosts of a graveyard, in order to protect him from a man who tried to kill his family.
Nevertheless, I do feel that Gaiman uses a similar formula for many of his stories, meaning that, quite often, his stories have too few surprises, the story arc being implicitly obvious from early on in the book.
Then again, the intricacies of the tale as well as the beauty with which he paints the individual characters make the book extremely enjoyable to read.
