3 stars: Poor; lost interest - a chore, possibly put it down

------------------------

I wanted, I really wanted to like this book. I heard Walesa speak once, and I certainly acknowledge his place in history. But the book was a very difficult read. It was not organized coherently, he gave no background for the information, no context. It was anecdotes that he remembered, in no organized fashion, and frankly they weren't very interesting...not was he.

----------------

From the back cover:

From the time he founded Solidarity in 1980 to the historic moment in 1990 when he took the oath of office as the first freely elected president of Poland in half a century, Walesa had all eyes upon him. He became the symbol of freedom and hope not only for Poland, but for all the countries in the former Easter Bloc. Walesa's dreams for his own beleaguered homeland rejuvenated the entire world's faith in democracy and inspired a movement that changed the map of Europe and altered the course of history.
