Thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you so much for the opportunity to discover Adriana Trigiani's writing. I must apoligize for keeping this book for the extended amount of time that I did. I read the first two installments of the trilogy before this, and personally, it was very much worth it. I must apoligize again for the MORE THAN LENGTHY stay :) I'll be mailing out probably tomorrow, depending on when I get the next person's addy.

Received this Big Stone Gap novel today!
Looking forward to this third book - esp. with the added connection to Italy - where we spent a wonderful week with friends this fall!

I'm with JDT, this book was lovely and lively but not quite in the same league with the other Big Stone Gap books. For me part of that "oooh, hey wait a minute" feeling was that unlike the other Big Stone Gap books where I felt invited to sit and get to know Ava's inner life and inner circle companions in depth over a short period of time--this book raced me through years feeding me the story and shorted on the emotional pay off that the other books offered. That being said, I read it quite quickly and did enjoy the book. Thank you lorik for sharing with me. I will PM mamikaem right away and will mail it off as soon as I receive the address.

As per my previous journal entry, I did contact the next reader on the Ring list on 4/6 and again today. Things come up--so this reader may be unavailable right now or that pesky hotmail account problem I have been reading about in the forum may be to blame. After consulting with the "Ring Master", lorik, I have emailed bunzrun for the address to which MGM will be welcomed.

On April 14, 2004 this book was sent via media mail to bunzrun. On this same day I received an email from BXer Mamikaem dated 4-7. I have no idea why I got this a week later--I was receiving PM's from other BXers. Regardless, I explained the situation to Mamikaem and my understanding that the Ring Parent, BXer lorik, suggested that the book be sent to bunzrun and that bunzrun would then send it to mamikaem. I offered any other available book off my shelf to mamikaem to make sure that there are no hard feelings.

This arrived in the mail yesterday. It will be interesting to find what is next in Ave Maria's life.

I am also thinking that, after reading all three books in the series, I really should visit the Big Stone Gap area in person. A new journal entry will be made if I do.

Do not despair. I have not forgotten this bookring. At this time, I am 1/3 of the way through and well on my way to finish.
Just wanted to be in touch and convey that it is being read and not just sitting on a shelf.

This was an enjoyable read. Loved reading the descriptions of Italy, its flowers and mountains. I have never been there but enjoy both mountains and flowers (& live amongst the flowers and mountains near the Virginia cities mentioned).

Also enjoyable was seeing again the colorful characters of Big Stone Gap. Many trials and hard decisions go along with growing up and getting older and they are described well.

There were gaps in the chronology. Sometimes a year would pass between a chapter or even paragraph. Perhaps some of that will be filled in if she continues tracing Etta's life.

In all I spent a quick, enjoyable time reading. To now be sent back to the RingMaster, Lorik.
