Faye Smallwood is a 15-year-old on the planet Demoth in 2427 when the plague strikes. Humans aren't affected, but their neighbors, the Ooloms, die. Faye helps a dying female Oolom, Proctor Zillif, to the hospital, and during their time together she learns about the Oolom's involvement in a watchdog organization called Vigil. Following some later traumatic experiences, Faye joins Vigil, and that's where the adventure begins...
