"Nothing links person to person like the frequent passage from hand to hand of a good book."

One of the best stories of the Holocaust and WWII. This is the story of the Jews and Catholics in Italy during that time. I've given out many copies as gifts. Wonderful character development and a very compelling story. Exactly what I expected from the author of "The Sparrow". I immediately felt that Renso Leoni in " Thread of Grace" had so much in common with Emilio Sandoz, the Jesuit from "The Sparrow" and "Children of God". Both characters have stayed with me for long after I read the stories.

Now my oldest Rabck, pulled to read. In checking some other lists, I have no idea why this was a wishlist book. I thought it was a TLC bookclub book, but it wasn't. If as good as I hope, it might wind up on the 2018 list!

rabck wishlist from judygreeneyes; historical fiction set in WWII Italy. Thankfully the author listed the characters in the beginning, including their alias names. Partisans are thwarting the German Army, and hiding the Jews that came over the mountains fleeing France. The novel begins with teenage Claudia crossing the mountains with her father, and ends with an elderly Claudia never speaking of her 2 years during the war with her children. They have no idea of Jewish Claudia's struggles, leadership in the Italian resistance & what she saw in the war.

strangely, this book was loose for the move - not with the others. Adding to the potential author or title rings stash, or maybe will be in the ABC VBB.

The book arrived. Thanks for sharing this as a bookray. I will start reading and keep the ray going.

================
I loved it, the story, the narrative style and the characters. I really like the characterization and I started to care about all the characters from very early on. I read quite a few WWII or holocaust novels; this is the first one set in Italy and their situation was quite unique. Thanks for sharing.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

Posted to SF.
I was unaware that the people of Italy played such a big role in hiding Jews. It is good to have such well written "faction" to ensure the stories are not lost. We must never forget.

Sincere apologies to those who've come before me - it has taken longer than necessary for me to record this books arrival. Very many thanks to ES who posted it. I've been keenly awaiting the arrival and will be starting it pretty quickly - after unpacking a few more boxes of books accompanying us to our new home. Will be very glad to get this move completed eventually.
