I liked the plot for this book and the twins. But I sometimes lost interest as the book seems to ramble abit. Some of the scenes I really didn't expect and found them quiet shocking like Estha with the Orangeman. Took a little while to get used to the changing timeline. The ending to this book is really sad, the death of an innocent man seems far more sadder than the death of Sophie Mol. This book is worth a read.

I started this away back in March but was struggling with it so decided to pause. I had no real desire to pick it up again and let book festivals and conventions etc get in the way. Today with everything finished for the year, I picked it up and was shocked at how little I had read - I thought I was further through it. I then looked at the small print and decided I wasn't going to read any more.

Have heard a lot about this book over the last few years but never got around to reading it myself. I loved the description, which is so rich and evocative. The story itself was very sad. I did wonder how popular the book has been in India as the picture painted of the poverty and class divide in that country is unflinching.
