I remember enjoying the I Spy TV series, starring Robert Culp and Bill Cosby as wise-cracking secret agents, during the mid-60s, so when I found this somewhat-battered paperback spinoff novel at the book-swap shelf in the Tyngsboro MA post office I just had to pick it up.

Later: the book does present the characters as comrades and equals, and includes some of their trademark banter (especially when they're talking to a superior, whom they do not seem to like very much). But it's also very, very violent, and I can't recall whether the TV shows included this level of violence. Not that it's out of place; international espionage has never been a warm-and-fuzzy activity. But it did surprise me.

Released 13 yrs ago (10/10/2010 UTC) at New Hampshire geocache (see notes for details) in -- Geocaches, New Hampshire USA

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

I left this book inside the Seven Dwarfs - Dopey geocache at about 4 on this beautiful fall day. [The photo shows the general area - and what great motivation geocaching gives me for getting out and enjoying days like this!] Today is also a special day for Geocaching.com - this year the site turns 10, and today they're hoping to set a new record for geocaches found. I've done my bit {grin}.

OK for a vintage spy story, it was OK lunchtime reading..! I took this one from a geocache in Nashua, NH. I don't usually take books from caches (too big to place into the micro-sized ones that are getting too common now!) but the cache was damp and I figured if it was left there any longer, the book would become wet soggy history:) I didn't get a chance to look at it till a lot later on, so I only noticed the Bookcrossing number on it the other day. I may place this into a geocache that's positioned off the ground , if I find one, or else maybe pass it along to a friend.

I was amused to find this book in another cache, Books in the Woods near Andover, MA, many years after I'd last heard from it. From the logs I suspect it has been in that cache since May of 2015 without being taken by anyone else. (It also seems to have been nibbled on by mice or chipmunks that attempted to nest in the ammo box when somebody left it open.) I may consign this one to the compost heap at this point, as I doubt anyone will want a vintage-chewed paperback {wry grin}.
