From Amazon.com:
It's the year 12090, a dark time for the world. After being dominated for 300 years by a race of Vampires known as "the Nobility," humanity is beginning to fight back. Yet as the humans struggle against the Vampires, they also struggle against themselves - cities lie in ruin, and nations are fragmented into small villages and fiefdoms. Every village must have a Hunter, a warrior that eradicates the Nobility and their genetically manufactured demons one vile night stalker at a time. But some of the Hunters are dangerous to more than just the Vampires. Some of them are not friends of humanity at all. Previously unavailable in the United States, Vampire Hunter D combines gripping narration and beautiful interior art by one of Japan's most renowned artists to bring forth a fright-filled futuristic thrill ride.
I fell in love with Vampire Hunter D the anime and then read several novels it was based on. The novels are wonderfully mysterious and elegant, just like Yoshitaka Amano's illustrations!

this is a most artful vampire story. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!
It is a very unique and interesting way to tell the story of vampires through the ages, and the combination with Science Fiction is captivating.
I think this series is really a milestone in the genre and I'll surely look out for more books about Vampire Hunter D.

Finished reading the book today. Below is my attempt at a brief review:
The Story: Personally, I like the story element of the book. The book is set in the far-future (12090 AD). A few humans have survived after a reckless nuclear war that destroyed the whole of the world. But also in the world are the Nobility, the vampires. i will not reveal anything else for fear of spoiling the fun for the readers, but overall the story is pretty decent and enjoyable.
Narration: The style of narration is something that is not to my taste. The story does not 'flow' and the narration does not keep you riveted. Too many lines are taken up by 'theatrics', and sometimes it gives you the feeling that the author was trying to deliberately create a look and aura of 'cool' around his main characters. So there are many adjectives like 'blindingly handsome countenance', 'venomous glow of twilight' etc, which I don't think are wrong to use, but just not effective if used too much. I have seen anime on television, and I know the Japanese style where intense action scenes are shown as freeze-frames and the expressions are exaggerated...the book follows a similar vein.
Illustrations: The art by Yoshitaka Amano is amazing as usual. The cover art is marvelous. There is a lot of fluidity in his strokes and a sense of movement to the sketches of action scenes. Although there are only 8 sketches, they add a lot to the overall book.
Overview: The characters are believable most of the time but the dialogues are not always upto the mark. However, the descriptions are good and the imagery builds up fast as you read. Overall, the book has a nice storyline, and some very good illustrations!

Thank you for this wishlist book - I loved the postcard (so colorful) and the bracelet. I am so sorry about the loss of your grandfather to cancer - I lost my dad to cancer just a year and half before my daughter died. I am a pharmacist and see so many people fighting this disease. I hope that one day soon scientists will find a way to beat this as they have so many other dreaded diseases.
