This is an incredible book from the very late 1800s that was decades before its time. Chopin's THE AWAKENING is the story of one woman's realization that she is oppressed in the patriarchial society she lives in, and of her struggles against this oppression. Chopin's writing is a pleasure to read, and the story, though "old" is one which will hold readers of today until the tragic ending.

A thoroughly enjoyable and interesting read! I found it hard to 'mesh' with the character of Mrs Pontellier, as she never really seemed clear of her intentions, or who she truly loved. For that reason, this classic love story's plot was over before it even began, in my opinion.

A very quick read -- still lovely, nonetheless!

Every married woman should read this book. I received this through a nervousness.org bookring and I really enjoyed it. The story seems way ahead of it's time and the writing is poetic. I'll be passing it on to the next person on the list.

Got the book from a nervousness book ring. I'll be sending it on to the next person today or tomorrow.
I enjoyed the book. Chopin's writing is poetic and lovely. She sets mood very well. I felt transported to 19th century Louisiana.
It was a thought-provoking read, too. Thanks to Anna for sharing.
