The people of the village Tepes were once ruled by a vampire. Now his castle sits empty, looking out over the village. Ten years ago four children vanished, three were found, none had any memory of what happened to them. Now strange vampires who can be active during the day are turning up and the townspeople are looking at the castle, wondering what is happening. The mayor hires the mysterious Vampire Hunter D to try and figure out what is happening to the village.

I really enjoyed this story, it took a little while to rev up and get going, but was totally worth it. I highly recommend this book to fans of a sci-fi/ fantasy with a western influence. It kind of reminds me of the TV show Firefly but with vampires.

read this one before, I actually have it but my copy is a bit on the battered side. I have been feeling the urge to read some Hunter D lately (even if I do read about six books out of the series a year.) so I think I'll give this a read through before sending it on it's journey again. :)

Every single time I read this book I enjoy it more and more. I have lost count how many times I have read various books in this series, but this one is quite outstanding. One of the things I love about these books is that it's not about vampires running about biting pepole and acting seductive (although that does happen.) overall the series is about is evoultion of a species, of what it means to be "human", and there is an reoccuring theme of racisim (in this series' case being vampire or human, or a mix of both.) and all of those themes are very clear in this book.

D's is a very very strange character, I for one cannot help but to be become addicted to his mystery and his mood appears to change with every book. He can range from being a complete jerk that cares for nothing but himself to being nobel and utterly heroic. In this book he is certianly at his most likeable and his most tragic. I won't spoil the end for anyone, but I will say that to this day...even after having been addicted to this series for three years...I cannot think about the last ten pages of this book and not be overwhealmed with emotion.

The only falling grace this book has is that it can be quite confusing. I didn't fully understand everything until reading it a second time long ago, but once you see all the elements piece themselves together it paints a gothic portiat unlike anything I have ever read before.

Well back into the manga box it goes. :) Hope it finds new friends!

I've never read any novelized manga before, thinking that they are just run-of-the-mill novels capitalizing on popular mangas. After reading the journals, however, I decide to give this a try. I enjoy good vampire stories and this sounds better than the average paranormal vampire romances.

The vampire bookbox is coming my way and this will be a great addition, as it's rather unlike the other families of vampires out there.

First of all, the vampire, while pivotal to the plot, hardly makes appearance. The main character is D, a dhampir of vampire sire and human mother, and thus possess extraordinary strength and instincts and mystical power. He is hired to a frontier town to investigate some vampiric attacks.

The story can be confusing, and it's almost read like a crime fiction where D tries to figure out who is the murderer. Like most mysteries, I am usually still somewhat confused at the end, even if I enjoyed the read. Add to the complicated story is the language. I don't know if it's due to the translation, but while beautiful, it at times borders on grandiloquent. Like "Lina bit her lip from voicing the fruit of that torment". And oh, vampires can be gorgeously handsome, but I hate it when authors feel the need to remind me every 5 minutes...
