The third outing for dour complex Edinburgh ex-cop (TM) - thanks to a charity shop in Ipswich :)
(24/08/10) This is the latest in the Jackson Brodie series, although I must admit to not keeping up with his-story; the wives and partners (several), children (Marlee, and possibly a son) and careers (solider, policeman, detective, and latterly rich and fairly idle). However, Brodie can’t avoid echoes of this past and meets with equanimity his unfair share of disasters, excitement, and not a little bit of luck. Atkinson is very good at this sort of multi-layered thriller, but I can’t help thinking that the pre-Brodie books were more genuinely interesting and varied. Anyway good fun, too complicated and too ridiculous a plot to try to cover here. I liked the spunky kid Reggie and both her and Brodie’s relationships with newly and previously deceased, as he says, ‘The dead are legion. He wished they would stop coming to see him.’
