The book arrived safely from Scotland and is enjoying sunny weather in the 30s here today. Thanks for the trade Chuckles. "Slave" should arrive in Scotland any day now.
I saw the film of "The Reader" a couple of weeks ago and loved it. I don't usually want to read the book having seen the film, this is the exception that proves the rule!

Journal Entry 4 by bluenoser from Eymet, Aquitaine France on Wednesday, September 9, 2009
This is a quick read, but well written and well translated. I'm so glad that they managed to stay true to the book in the film (except for a few small changes near the end). I enjoyed filling in the details that can't be included in just a couple of hours of film and managed to transpose the features of the actors in the film to those in the book without spoiling anything.
Thank you for this trade Chuckles.

Please respect the usual rules for a bookring - write a JE when it arrives safely at your house, don't keep it for longer than a month (it's a quick 230 pages), and PM the next person on the list for their mailing address. Enjoy.

A good story although i'm not sure i would want to see the film. Well written take on the feelings of Germany after the holocaust and how the generation which came after the war were made to feel about their families.

This book is now ready to travel to Kayellbee once i have their address.

I enjoyed the earlier part of this book, but found the latter part a bit tedious. Glad I read it though, maybe I should check out the film next. Will send to Mafarrimond as soon as I have address. Thanks all!

More thought-provoking than the film. A different angle to the holocaust than usually portrayed.

I picked this up off the swaps table at the Unconvention, but it seems to be part way through a ring.

I agreed to send it to MyopicMeringue next, but I think it ought to continue the ring.

I shall read it, and pass it on to the next ring person; but I think Meringue should be added to the ring.

This seems to have been lost, then found at the Swindon Unconvention and has since stalled again. I found another copy last week:

So the ring will be restarting with pingucb when I pop this in the hands of La Poste tomorrow.
