A charity shop copy to re-read and release. Chabon's great novel set around the birth of the superhero comics, with the story of his young writer and artist entwined with the comics' origins and development, as their "Escapist" becomes a cultural icon. Has some lyrical moments of joy describing the emergence of characters, showing how much chabon knows and loves comics and their creators, and is often very moving.

Picked up in a cafe in Bridgnorth, Shropshire - on the counter, underneath a newspaper, my mum's eagle eyes spotted it! looks interesting...

Interesting, moving and different view of the Second World War - I very much enjoyed this, found the characters intriguing and the saga compelling.
I think I'll pass it on to my parents when I visit them in a couple of weeks time.
