Got this in the mail today.

While I was sitting here starting to journal this book, my cat walked over to the envelope, stuck his head in up to the shoulders, discovered that he couldn't get out, and started freaking out and running around the room.

Luckily the envelope fell off before he found the walls...

Front Cover: In the rain forests of Peru, an ancient manuscript has been discovered. Within its pages are 9 key insights into life itself -- insights each human being is predicted to grasp sequentially, one insight, then another, as we move toward a completely spiritual culture on Earth.

Back Cover: You have never read a book like this before. The Celestine Prophecy contains secrets that are currently changing our world. Drawing on ancient wisdom, it tells you how to make connections among the events happening in your own life right now ... and lets you set what is going to happen to you in the years to come!

A book that has been passed from hand to hand, from friend to friend, since it first appeared in small bookshops across America, The Celestine Prophecy is a work that has come to light at a time when the world deeply needs to read its words. The story it tells is a gripping one of adventure and discovery, but it is also a guidebook that has the power to crystallize your perceptions of why you are where you are in life ... and to direct your steps with a new energy and optimism as you head into tomorrow. A book that comes along once in a lifetime to change lives forever.

I finished reading this today. As a work of fiction, it was interesting. If it had been nonfiction, I probably would have set it down without finishing it. The main character, who is never given a name, journeys far mainly on instinct, as the wind blows him so to speak, in search of a manuscript which the government is set on destroying. It has some adventure, wondering if he's going to get caught. But mysteriously he's always able to get away. I'm also reading "An Experiential Guide" which is a companion to this book ... and it helps explain the chapters in more depth.

Favorite Quote (page 77): "Mountain peaks are special places that can build energy in whomever sits on them. You look as though you have an affinity (a natural liking for or attraction to) for mountain overlooks."

What a lovely way to begin the weekend...a surprise RABCK. Thank you, cyber-librarian!! I look forward to reading it very soon.

An interesting read. As far as self-help/motivational/inspirational books go, this didn't move me as much as many have (perhaps it wasn't the right timing for me), but it was still worth reading.

rabck bookbox from dg500; This book is classified as fiction, although it could also be religion/spirituality. Think of The DaVinci Code crossed with The Shack. And like both of those books, folks are polarized into either a love or hate camp - hardly anyone in between! I loved the book, although since I was traveling, I started with the audio version, read by Lou Diamond Phillips (who did a wonderful job) - and then continued the audio as a read-along with the paper copy. The interview at the end of the audio was also excellent (and can be found on the publisher's site). Mostly set in Peru, an American is by chance, hunting for a banned manuscript of spiritual "insights", that the Peruvian government and some higher-ups in the Catholic church are trying to suppress.
