Thankyou thankyou for this book. I have read it and loved it but it was set free...now another copy to re-read and share with a *deserving* guest! Barbara Kingsolver is a treasure.
Jan.14 2004...I still have this sitting on my TB(re)R pile...but two other people have read it in the meantime, so it is getting some mileage!

While I didn't enjoy this one as much as Pigs in Heaven or The Bean Trees, it is still an excellent example of Barbara Kingsolver's style. I will be passing this one on!
This book is being sent in trade to Theory19. Happy reading!
Thanks very much for this trade! I have heard a lot of good things about her books, and I can't wait for finals to be over so I can start it!
This was an excellent book. I wouldn't mind a PC-shelf copy of this someday...trading to nancydotslash!
Thanks for this book, I hope to read it soon.
Animal Dreams is an engaging novel about an emotionally isolated young woman.
She must learn to trust her heritage and instincts, and her memories - eventually her relationships. The story takes place in the magical Southwest,in a Spanish speaking community - and Kingsolver's writing about the land reminded me of the draw - the pull - that this part of the country has on many people, including myself. Her sister, although not physically with her in the story, is a significant part of Codi's maturing process, through their letters.
This story deals with topics such as: pregnancy & miscarriage, Native American heritage, the politics of Nicaragua & U.S, sisters, the science of plants & human impact, mining and the water supply, and even the language of railroading - this I got a personal kick out of because my hubby is a Locomotive Engineer for the S. Pacific just like the "leading man" in Codi's life,(surprise!) A beautifully woven story with Kingsolver's touch of "justice for all".
I will release the book into the wild soon.....
