Received over the weekend. This book is part of my First Sentences Virtual Bookbox, in which participants submit only the first sentence of the books they've chosen. BookCrossers who choose each book don't know until they've received the book what the title and author are. The first sentence of this book is "'Do you think you're a nymphomaniac,' Bill wants to know." Sounds provocative.

Journal Entry 4 by collectorkerri at Springfield, Illinois USA on Saturday, March 28, 2020
Well, I said the book sounded provocative in my first journal entry, and that was true enough, but a lot of it just made me sad. Jane Juska is from a generation of women that denied themselves an awful lot in terms of self-fulfillment in service to a world that believed all they had to offer was their service as wives and mothers. As a result, she and many women like her believed themselves unworthy of love and sex and tried to squelch those feelings in themselves. This book is the result of a woman in her mid-60s who decided she didn’t want to live that way anymore. It reads very much like a proto-Eat, Pray, Love, although I think I liked that book better. I just never quite connected with Jane, having been born a few decades after her into a somewhat different world for expectations of women.

The book is currently on the list for a nonfiction bookbox, so it will sit here until it is chosen by another reader.
