Just reading after having it gathering dust on my shelf for the better part or 10 years.
I should have realised that "the male Bridget Jones" was not a review but a warning. A bunch of self-indulgent Londoners who are completely unintesting. The bits that were supposed to be funny (e.g. lengthly descriptions of the central character's miserable flat, descriptions of pot noodle sandwiches, burnt spaghetti hoops) were supposed to be endearing but I found them just dull. It felt really dated. Anyway, it's finally off my shelf and in my bookcrossing bag - at last!
