I've been hearing this authors name for ages and one of his books, "Choke" is on the 1001 books list so i thought i'd give it a try. And the book cover is a nice yellow colour, like smooth mustard. Will read and release at some point in the not too dim and distant future.

Another excellent read from Palahniuk, master of macabre and the seedy under-belly of the human soul. The tale of Tender Branson; escaped from a religious death cult and modern day serfdom only to rise to fame as a shining reality tv star, a product of mass merchandising and the cult of the celebrity. Told from the cockpit of a hijacked plane, to a black box recorder as the plane and Tender's life spiral out of control and begin their final descent both literally and metaphorically.

Love Palahniuk - definately one of the people to have at your "ideal hypothetical dinner party" - warped and wonderful!

Now available to a good home upon request!

Thanks shovelmonkey1! The book arrived safely in the mail yesterday and it's looking good. Only read the first couple of chapters so far but I'll let you know how I liked it once I'm all the way through. All I can say right now is that the book cover is indeed a very nice yellow color. Very inviting! :-)
Thanks again for "waking me up" and also for the lovely card from Liverpool!
Cheers to you...

This was a good read. Captured me right from the start. Weird characters, twisted story, warped sense of humor, touching on some philosophical topics and even dishing out pearls of wisdom here and there. Sometimes a bit gross maybe but definitely made me curious to read more of this author.
The end came a little too sudden - but I guess that's the nature of plane crashes.

Thanks again shovelmonkey1!
This book is looking for its next reader.

The book got here safe and sound, thanks a lot! I'll try and get to it this coming week.

EDITH: Finished the book quite a while ago, and guess what, I loved it! Seemed to be even more dramatic and scary and crazy than "Fight Club", I really fell in love with the main characters, Tender Branson and Fertility, though the rather violent scenes (e.g. killing the brother) where kind of hard to take. A good read! And, yes, the end came a little too sudden, Fertility must have been right, though. She must have been. Right?

The book arrived safe and sound.
It will take me a while to read.

Where is this copy supposed to go to afterwards...?

27-Jan-11
Well - I declare defeat!
I think it's time to accept that Palahniuk is not my kind.
I liked Choke.... but everything I've read afterwards didn't really catch my attention and I didn't like it. Well - I can live without it....

Wow! What a ride! Awful, macabre, distasteful, funny and always the urge to go on reading it. I liked it :-)

When I realized, that it will always be on my Mount TBR and never be read, I decided to send it to someone who has it on the wishlist.

Thanks a lot for the unexpected book Der-Heitzer. I really enjoy reading Palahniuk and am looking forward to reading this one.

By the way, this book would have been journaled earlier I think, but I just saw it today as I don't fully understand my wife's mail filing system :)

Another classic Palahniuk full of the irreverent, shocking, and sometimes disgusting content. This is all right up my alley so I really enjoyed both the writing and the interesting premise of this book.

Thanks again Der-Heitzer. I am going to see if I can manage to pass this on to another wishlister if I can.
