I really enjoyed this story. This was my first foray into Barr's writing, and I was really pulled into the tale by her style - the characters were very complex and well-developed (I was drawn to Anna with her fallible, human characteristics); her vivid descriptions of the area made me feel like I was "there" , and her narratives really brought the story to life. And, the mystery was fabulous and extremely satisfying...all in all, a well-plotted and well-written story, and I will definately add Ms. Barr to my must-read author list!

So far I really like this book. It hasn't gotten very exciting yet, but the author is taking time to build up the characters, especially Anna's. I really like the situation Barr is puttig Anna in. I also like the trips through Anna's mind Barr leads us through. Confident and secure, Anna seems the perfect heroine. I imagine however, all this fortifying is going to lead us to a very dark place with a lot of incredible fear and suspense with Anna.
Several references to sex have been made. Some are abstract, nonetheless, this is not a book for kids.

Finally! I just finished this book minutes ago! Can you believe it takes me that long to read a book? It probably would have moved faster for me if I was really into it, and if I committed more time each day to reading. I'm a meandering reader though. Sorry for the delay.

Overall this was a really good book. Though the plot line didn't grip me or even titillate me, I enjoyed the author's great skill in developing Anna's character, and her incredible use of sensory details. The way Barr writes is truely refreshing. I learned a lot about a National Park that I have never visited too.

In the end, this mystery was very good. The plot and "evil" that materialized in the last 3-5 chapters was really good. I especially liked the tension between Anna and other characters. She kinda struck me as the kind of person that gets under other peoples' skins, unintentionally of course. Anna's own problems are far too consuming for her to fret over petty relationships and voodoo mysteries. When she stumbles into a mystery she really stumbles.

Overall a very good read for mystery lovers.
