An interesting twist on a detective story, describing the way the electronic trail you leave as you make your way through the world reveals (almost) everything about you. It was written in 2001, which is a long time on the internet, but it's aged quite well.
The story is told through the data, interspersed with interpretive comment by the detective. I thought at first that would get irritating, but it actually works rather well; each snippet of information drawing you further into the story.
One little quibble (which doesn't really detract that much from the story, it was just more of a "huh?" moment) - surely the detective would have spotted who Sam Collier was very early on? Given the kind of information he had access to, I would have expected him to trip over the trail leading to "Sam"'s email address very quickly. It's quite hard to genuinely anonymise an email account, after all.
