Interesting non-fiction murder mystery.

I found the ending a bit annoying, but was fascinated by the way the investigation was controlled by the attitudes of the time (1860). My favourite part of the book was the way Summerscale used the story of this investigation to tell the history of detectives, detective fiction, and words relating to detectives.

Well, it took me almost 2 years, but I have finally read this book! I really enoyed it - more than I was expecting to. Summerscale has done an incredible amount of research, this book must have taken so long to write. But the information included really makes the era come alive. In a way, it's a story without an end as we could have gone on to learn how the events had resonated throughout the years within this family.

Hope the next reader enjoys it as much.
