Burger's Daughter

I read this book a while ago and don't remember too many details, but I do remember reading it in a very short time. After all, there is a reason why Nadine Gordimer has received the Nobel Prize in literature!
What I do remember is the story of a young white woman, Rosa Burger, whose father dies in prison in South Africa where he was incarcerated because of his political affiliation with the communists. Trying to make sense of her life, Rosa sometimes almost drowns in her memories until she finally comes to a new understanding of her place in the world.
