I've loved "Cold Comfort Farm" since I first read it years ago - it's a wonderfully snippy takeoff of rural-England novels full of steaming middens and dripping thatches, and what happens when a plucky young heroine decides to fix things up; a bit like what might happen if Austen's Emma visited some of Thomas Hardy's characters, as illustrated by Edward Gorey {grin}. [This audio version is very well read, but it is an abridgement; not a bad one, but I really, really prefer my books unabridged...]

This tape seems destined for hospitals; the friend I'd lent it to recovered, so now the tape's on its way to BCer Grover3d in West Virginia, in hopes it will help cheer her during her recovery!

Another wonderful "get well" surprise from Gory - I've never read COLD COMFORT and I'm looking forward to this one (I'm saving it for being able to drive again). Thank you so much!
Very fun, snarky and light - a perfect "recovery" book (and I may have to try the unabridged version) - I've offered it up on CasualReader's BookRelay site to keep it moving. Thanks so much, Gory!
