Hiccup: How to Train Your Dragon
32 journalers for this copy...
This is one of the best books I have EVER read!!! I would soooooooooo recommend this to everyone and anyone, it's great for a laugh! My Auntie and my mom has both read this and enjoyed it, they both want to read the rest and I'm just passing this around. This book is soon to be made into a film, so it's well worth a read to make sure you can compare it to the film when it comes out.
On the blurb (back of the book) it says:
"About The Author...
Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III was a truly extraordinary Viking Heor. Warrior chieftain, awesome sword-fighter and amateur naturalist, he was known throughout Vikingdom as 'the Dragon Whisperer' on account of his power over these terrifying beasts.
But it wasn't always like that...
'A classic.' - The Viking Herald.
'How To Train Your Dragon is a must read for every Hero who is having a little trouble being as Heroic as he would like to be' - The Barbarian Librarian."
This talks about Hiccups childhood and how hard it was for him to become chief.
WELL WORTH A READ!!!

Popped in the post yesterday
I read the first couple of chapters and flicked through the rest of the book - to be honest it seems to be the kind of kids book that should be left to the kids! I love childrens litreature and read alot of it, but this was just sloppily written, with stereotype charecters and really dumb humour (I wouldn't of found this funny even as a child, this kind of 'comedy' always annoyed me when I was younger as I just found it patronising)
It has arrived. Added to mount TBR
A quick status update on this book.
I apologize for not getting this book moving quicker - it seems like all rings/rays/spirals I sign up for arrive at my house at the same time anymore. I am presently reading this book and hope to have it on its way to Bkind2books as soon as I finish reading (next day or so)
What a delightful story. I really enjoyed the author'd sense of humor.
Hiccup and Toothless are my kind of heros
Thank you for including me. I have the next persons address and will mail as soonn as I can

Thanks for organizing this ring..will start this as soon as I finish my current books.
Cute story but not as well written as I had hoped. It's probably meant for younger readers, especially boys - seems geared to more of the 'gross' humor that they appreciate. I do read quite a bit of children's literature but I want it to have a strong plot and/or characters. Here the story is quite simple and the characters seem one dimensional.
Will get out to the next person in the ring tomorrow

Mailed to allthesepieces this morning
This one arrived safely this morning. It looks like it'll be a quick read. I'm hoping to get started soon, but I do have a few books in front of this one.
Thanks for including me!
This looked like it'd be fun. I did enjoy it. It was cute and silly and everything I could have expected of a book written for young boys. On the other hand, I couldn’t really find a point to the story. It seems the book’s only purpose was to entertain children.
I wonder, does the plot develop further as the series continues? I may have to check a few of the other books out at the library to satisfy my curiosity.
Thanks for including me. The next participant has asked to be skipped, so I'll need to send out another PM tonight. I hope to have this in the mail soon.
Still no answer from Azuki. I've sent a PM to Agrace.

On its way to the next...er...next participant? ;) Enjoy!
Cute book that was a lot of fun to read. Mailed to next reader today. Sorry for the delay.
THe dragon has just landed in Florida. Interestingly two weeks ago when I went to the movie theaters there was a big cut out promoting a 3D movie of this book, which started me wondering when I get to read it, and then I get a pm asking for my address! I have a couple of books ahead of this but hopefully will get it moving soon enough, as it looks like a quick read once I start reading.
I enjoy reading it, it's a cute story, though if the author doesn't dumb it down as much I would like it a lot more.
Will mail this out as soon as I get the next reader's address.
Barely got it out of the packing before I started reading it. :P
It was enjoyable, but a little too kid-ish for me. Sometime in the far, far future it would be a good book to read to my kids.
Finished it last night and am PMing the next person on the list.

Dragons & Vikings in Honolulu, oh my! ;)
This book arrived today and will be read soon - I see that there is a long list of readers waiting for it so I will try not to take too long.
--
Just a quick comment here:
limpets (or
'opihi in Hawaiian) are considered a delicacy by quite a few people in Hawaii..although most people wouldn't want a diet of *only* limpets. :)
To be honest, I wasn't sure at the beginning that I was going to like this book; it seemed like there might be too much emphasis on the obnoxious and disgusting (which is always popular with a certain segment of young readers)
Ă la Captain Underpants.
Ultimately though, the story and the drawings drew me in and I ended up enjoying it quite a bit. I particularly liked the facsimile of the famous Viking book (cover shown in journal entry pic).
The book is in good shape, but it has a *long* way to go, and I was concerned that the sticky notes might not hold up, so I added a couple of
Jive-Monster's bookmarks (available from her bookshelf or from
TexasWren's site) that go on the outside of the book, and I included the BCID on the bookmarks.
Such a long list of readers after me is a big responsibility, so I'll be sending this book out to Dakini6 on Monday!
Edit: saw the movie today. I don't *intend* to put any spoilers in this comment but if you're concerned, stop reading now..
Some elements from the book were kept, and other things were changed quite a bit..but it was a lot of fun, and the dragons were terrific! I definitely recommend paying the extra to see the 3D version. I have to admit that I'm still not clear on why Vikings would sound like that - Scottish?? Visually I thought some of the humans reminded me of the ones in Shrek, and Toothless was quite Stitch-like, but the flying scenes were wonderful, and Hiccup's gadgets were great.

The dragon arrived today and will rest some days on mount tbr.
Edit 27.03.2013: Surprisingly short and a nice change from all the thrillers. Enjoyed reading the book in just one evening.

Received this morning. Have one book in front, will then get on it and hopefully have it finished by the end of the week...loving the look of the illustrations already!

This is a lovely book. It makes me smile just to think about it. The pictures are fabulous and I love the story line. Definitely one recommended to read!

Wow, well this is one travelled book, and was one of the first books I sent on a bookring, and at times I never thought it would ever make its way back to me. But I never lost hope, and here it is back in my hands once again.
I want to thank everyone who took part and I want to thank you all for looking after this book.
When I first started this bookring, I had planned on doing a spiral. Those of you who enjoyed this book messaged me in the past about the possibility of a spiral. I was a bit undecided.
I will start a spiral for all the books in the near future, maybe next year. And I hope many of you will sign up to it. That may be a way off though.
I can't thank you all enough, and this is definitely my most travelled book thus far.

Sent this book off, it's now in the post!
Off it goes to someone I skipped because they were inactive on BC. However they PM'd me and said they really would like to read this book, and so I have sent it out to them :)
