Picked this book up at the Concord Public Library book sales. I love library book sales! You get to feel good about buying armloads of books, because you are supporting the library. Win-win! Looking forward to reading this one.

P. D. James is so good, I can't wait to see what this is like
A little disappointed in this. At first I thought it was science fiction, which it's not. Fine, there are plenty of excellent sf writers, but not many writers who can approach James at psychological thrillers & mysteries. But this wasn't that exactly, either. It seemed mostly to be a study of the link between power and casual, almost capricious cruelty.
The one part of the story that I wish had been addressed a little more was the point at which England seems to spontaneously hand over all power to a self-chosen Warden. Really? The home of the Magna Carta, the courageous defenders of the Blitz, just packing it in and losing interest? No, I don't quite see that!
