This is the second book I've read by Kate Mosse and I liked this one much better than Labyrinth. The story unfolds over two time periods, similar to Labyrinth, but the two plotlines are significantly different and the connections don't all fall into place until the very end. If you are interested in Tarot then this book will likely fascinate you. I loved the historical information about Carcassonne and surrounding area and the religious iconography of the area.
The consistent theme throughout is the presence of Tarot cards and the inference that these particular cards can invoke spirits. In the historical plot line, this is not considered unusual. In the modern time period, it very much is. There were some minor plot issues (like how both Leonie and Meredith were able to find the hidden tarot cards in an afternoon when others had been searching unsuccessfully for years). However, the plot was well developed and moved at a good pace. I enjoyed reading this book.
