The Zahir, as the title says is in fact a novel of obsession. Obsession of a best selling author with the sudden disappearance of his wife who lives in Paris. The book explains his journey with the help of another man who happens to know his wife and had helped her in her escape. As the book unfolds it becomes clear that she escaped to find herself, show her husband what he had and what he is missing now and to take a journey.
The disappearance of his wife, forces the narrator to revisit every aspect of his life, his past, his fears, his beliefs and his feelings for her. When the time is right, he meets her and by then all his illusions are clear, he knows what she wanted and he is in touch with himself and the universe.
I found parts of the book difficult to finish, but I plugged on and finished the book. The husband is a very self absorbed man.

Enjoy! off to Izzy5000 as a wishlist RABCK and for The "THE" release challenge 2012. Trust you find the book interesting.
Thanks so much for the book! What a great piece of mail to come home to after a long trip in India.
This book had a lot of interesting viewpoints on life, but it wasn't as action filled as I would have liked.

Picked out of the A-Z bookbox. Thanks!
A spiritual mood book. The narrator's third wife, a war correspondent disappears, he suspects with a friend Mikhail. But Mikhail finds the narrator and promises to reunite him with his wife, when the time is right. After spending time in Paris, Mikhail reveals that Esther is in the steppes of Khakhstan. Interestingly, a non-fiction book I read last year also explored the steppes of Khakhstan. In the end, the narrator and his wife meet again.
