I thought this was a great read! A friend and I picked it for our bookclub, not really knowing what to expect. Once I picked it up, however, I couldn't put it down. Definitely keeps you wanting to know how the story ends. Some parts were hard to read (especially about the abuse done to the elephant -- animal lovers, beware!), but I'd still recommend this book. :-)
